About Us Does Jesus Really Save? Does Jesus really save? David thought so when he wrote Psalms 34. I remember the old hymn Jesus Saves and I think about what He has done for me and how He has promised to forgive and save us. But will He really deliver me out of all my troubles? The world we live in is so full of trouble and pain. As I write this there are catastrophic fires in Califronia and I have been reading about a 7.0 magnitude earth quake in Indonesia. People have died. Someone has murdered his family in another part of the country. The H1N1 virus is threatening. The news is full of trouble and pain. Every day there are new stories of dissaster and man's inhumanity to his fellows. We hear so much tragedy that unless it touches us we hardly notice it. When it does touch us we think that life is supposed to be that way. "Oh well, thats the way life is". Life is hard and then you die.
In Luke 11 Jesus tells a parable of a man who goes to his friend at midnight and asks for bread. He has a need and because of his importunity he recieves. the word importunity means to "press urgently and persistantly, refusing to be denied, demanding, troubling when deserving nothing." Jesus says trouble Me, press your requests urgently. To do this we need to recognise the extent of our need. What is our condition before God? We have no strength, no wisdom, no ability, and no hope of saving ourselves from whatever we are facing whether it be temptation or addiction, disease or dissaster, loss of relationships or jobs, home or reputation. It doesn't matter what you are facing Jesus saves. Romans 10:13 says that all who call on Him will be saved and that is right now this minute when we need it. We may not see the answers imediately but we can know He is working on our behalf and believe and rejoice in his salvation. Hebrews 7:25
